washingtondemons-2

The Washington Demons fell in a pair of basketball battles with Ottumwa last night on their home court. The Washington boys came up short in a thriller, turning a nine-point deficit in the first quarter into only trailing 38-36 at halftime, thanks in part to freshman Nic Stone hitting three three-pointers and scoring all of his team-high 12 points in the second period.

The Demons would have a one-point lead in the final minutes, with another red-hot shooting night from deep producing 11 total made threes. But Ottumwa finished the game on a 10-1 run to secure a 68-61 victory.

Sophomores Drew Conrad and Rajan Roth had 11 points each and senior Roman Roth scored 10, but Washington could not get a third straight win and instead falls to 6-7.

The Demon girls had a strong start shooting from beyond the arc, knocking down four triples of their own and only trailing Ottumwa 16-12 after a quarter of play. But the Bulldogs closed the first half on an 8-0 run to take a double-digit lead into halftime, and they would stay in front big the rest of the way in a 48-29 win.

Junior guard Kendall Hinrichsen paced Washington with 11 points but the Demons suffer back-to-back losses to fall to 7-7. Both Washington teams next hit the hardwood Friday at Mount Pleasant. You can hear the doubleheader when the Demons meet the Panthers Friday evening starting at 5:30 on 106.1 FM KCII.
