The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams scored one win in two tries Tuesday at Durant in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys were a winner going away 65-43. Durant was on top four minutes in 8-4, Mid-Prairie countered with a 13-2 run and wouldn’t trail again, on top 14-8 after one and 35-16 at half. The Golden Hawks continued to methodically pull away, up 25 after three frames, and would stretch their lead to 33 at it’s largest in securing the win. Mid-Prairie won the glass by 17 and the turnover battle 28-8. The Hawks put three in double figures, led by 17 points for Ace Peck, 15 for Bryce Henry, and 11 for Brady Weber. Durant got 15 from Race Starr. After the win, the Golden Hawk of the Game, Dylan Henry joined the KCII Postgame Show live to talk about the victory. Henry said, “For the team tonight, we knew we had to play good defense, because the shots weren’t falling. We had to get stops. When I’m blocking shots, I don’t really think about it. I just go up and try to block it. It’s a great feeling (when I get the block), maybe give a little flex or something after, I don’t know. It’s a lot of fun on this team. We have a lot of great shooters, so you know if someone’s open, they’re likely going to be able to knock down an open three.”

Mid-Prairie is now 6-6 on the year as Durant remains winless.

The Golden Hawks fell in the girls matchup 57-51. It was a 14-9 Mid-Prairie lead after one, and a slim 19-18 Hawk advantage at half. Durant took the lead in the third quarter and pushed it to four, before the Hawks answered with a 9-0 run stretching into the final frame, keyed by a Morgyn Bender three at the quarter buzzer. Mid-Prairie would run their lead to seven at it’s largest, but Durant closed the game on a 24-8 run, to score their first conference win of the season. The Hawks won the glass by two, but lost the turnover battle 29-26 as the two teams combined for 55 giveaways. Mariah Alpen had a career high 18 points and 10 rebounds for Durant. The Golden Hawks got 11 points from Brooklyn Schneider with 10 each for Jovi Evans and Callie Huber. The loss drops Mid-Prairie to 8-6 as Durant jumps to 5-9. Mid-Prairie is back in action Friday when they host Wilton for a conference doubleheader.
