A trip to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s wrestling state championships will be on the line for local grapplers tomorrow when they take part in super regionals at the Alliant Energy Power House in Cedar Rapids.
A few local wrestlers will be trying to make return trips to the state tournament in Coralville, including WACO’s Rylee Rice. The junior made state in the 110-pound weight class in 2023 and is 21-8 so far this season. Warriors junior Elyssa Graber will be looking to make her first trip to state after going 20-10 at 105 lbs in 2024.
Highland’s Angelina Roling is also trying to get back to state after making it at 115 lbs. The senior is 20-4 so far this season. Junior Peggy Miller has been the winningest wrestler for the Huskies with 24 victories at 155 lbs this season, while junior Lilly Barre will try to add a trip to state to a 20-6 season.
For Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union, junior Josie Nelson has put together a strong season with an 18-4 record at 140, while sophomore Quinn Smith will also be a contender at super regionals at 135 after going 11-4.
Lone Tree juniors Alex Dautremont and Kayleigh Rundlett are coming off medals at their last tournament and will try to punch their tickets to state. Girls’ wrestling super regionals will begin with weigh-ins tomorrow morning at 8 and the first bouts being wrestled in Cedar Rapids at 10.
