Wellman welcomed the best local archers in Southeast Iowa Saturday as the Golden Hawk Archery Club hosted their first ever home tournament.
The Washington Demons were dominant, winning five of six team titles decided on the day and three individual championships. Washington swept the high school team trophies, winning bullseye with a 3251, ahead of Solon’s 3244 and 3D with 1645. The bullseye team was led by an individual girls championship from Hannah Lipski with a 280 that included 15 10s. Other Washington top ten girls included Gabrielle Andrew seventh and Emma Helfrich eighth. For the Demon boys, Blake Sheetz had the top bullseye round, firing a 278 with 14 10s for third, followed by Layne Moore fourth and Ethan Hotchkiss eighth. In 3D, Gabrielle Andrew was girls champion with a 283 round that included 18 10s. Hannah Lipski was third. The Demon boys were paced by runner-up Ethan Hotchkiss with a 279 and 15 10s, followed by Jace Sanders sixth, Blaine Hodson seventh and Mark Chenoweth eighth.
The Washington Middle School team was the 3D champion with a 1583 and finished second in bullseye with a 3111. In 3D, Zach Hotchkiss was third with a 268 score that included 13 tens. He was followed by Hunter Barnes in fifth, Jace Helfrich sixth and Jordan Thorius seventh. On the girls side, Sophie Wittmayer was third with a 263 and 10 tens with Charlee Read fourth. In bullseye, the Demons were led Charlee Read girls runner-up with a 280 and 14 10s, Evelyn Glaspie was ninth. For the boys Zach Hotchkiss third with a 276 and 12 tens and Jordan Thorius fourth.
The Lincoln Demons swept the team titles, winning bullseye with a 2632 and 3D with a 1240. Addyson Neer was girls 3D champ with a 210 that included four tens. Other Demon girls top tens included Aly Black second, Aaliyah Palacios third, Ziva Laws fourth, and Kenzie Vargas fifth. In boys 3D Lawson Love was fourth with a 207 and that included a pair of tens. Gabriel Frost was fifth, Jack Charlier sixth, Jayse Thorius seventh, Wyatt Dugger eighth, and Austin Boone ninth. In bullseye Addyson Neer was girls runner-up with a 227 that included three tens. She was followed by Aly Black third, Kenzie Vargas fifth, Kaylee McFarland sixth, Ziva Laws seventh and Aaliyah Palacios ninth. Gabriel Frost led the Demon boys with a fourth place 236 and six tens, followed by Jack Charlier seventh.
The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks won three individual championships Saturday. The high school Hawks were team runners-up in 3D with a 1638 and third in bullseye with a 3212. Landon Kuenster was boys 3D champion with a 280 and 16 tens. He was followed by Elijah Statler third, Milo Sieren fifth and Johnathan Pickard 10th. For the 3D girls, Averi Janecek was fourth with a 271 and 15 tens. Allie Whetstine was fifth and Ava Miller seventh. In bullseye, Elijah Statler was boys runner-up with a 281 and 17 tens. Landon Kuenster was seventh. For the girls, Morgyn Nafziger was sixth with a 275 and 13 tens, Caitlyn Yoder was 10th.
The Middle School Hawks were second in 3D with a 1538 and third in bullseye with a 3103. Noah Coblentz was boys 3D champion with a 269 that included 15 tens, Kylar Kiefer was ninth. For the girls, Lael Seale was eighth with a 250 and seven tens. Lara Brenneman was ninth. In bullseye, Lael Seale was third for the girls with a 274 and 14 tens. Preston Ford took fifth for the boys with a 271 and 13 tens, followed by Easton Gorsch sixth, Kylar Kiefer seventh and Nickolas Kelley 10th.
The Elementary Hawks saw Blair Northup win the girls bullseye championship with a 230 and three tens. Marin Northup was fourth and Brooklyn Liska 10th. Joshua Seale led the boys in third with a 243 and three tens. Adric McClellen was sixth, and Max Redig eighth. In 3D, Joshua Seale was third for the boys with a 215 and five tens. Claire O’Connor was sixth with a 129.
In the first event ever for archery at St. James School, Caiden Luers was ninth in boys bullseye with a 221 and a pair of tens. Misty Mei was 15th for the girls with a 137.
