One of the Washington Demons’ biggest rivalries will be reignited tonight when Washington travels to meet Mount Pleasant for a basketball doubleheader you can hear on KCII. The Washington girls will be looking for a season sweep of their series with Mount Pleasant, while the Demon boys will be trying to earn redemption from a 70-53 loss to the Panthers in December.

As they get set to take on a Mount Pleasant team that has just one conference win and is 3-11 overall, Washington will be trying to avoid a third straight girls’ basketball defeat, as they come into tonight with a 7-7 overall record and a 4-3 mark in the Southeast Conference.

Junior guard Kendall Hinrichsen has started to pick up her scoring pace and give the offense a boost by scoring almost nine-and-a-half points per game over the last seven contests. Demons head coach Shannon Rugg tells KCII Sports that the whole team needs to give a great effort on defense if they want to power past the Panthers.

“We’re going to have to get stops,” Rugg says, “and we’re going to have to rebound the ball better [and] not give [Mount Pleasant] second and third opportunities to score the ball. We’re going to have to dig in on the defensive end, just compete and give ourselves a chance to win.”

The Washington boys will be looking for their fourth win in the last six games. The Demons have leaned on the scoring of sophomore Drew Conrad and junior Logan McDole, who are combining to put almost 25 points a game, while freshman Nic Stone continues to light up scoreboards with the most made three-pointers in the Southeast Conference. Head coach Collin Stark says his team’s offensive firepower has allowed them to not feel out of sorts when away from home.

“We’re 3-0 [in] away conference games,” Stark says. “That’s a credit to these guys. They’re dialed in [during] away games, and we’re going to continue to make sure we playing at our best.”

6-7 Washington will face a Mount Pleasant team that has lost just once in league play during its attempt at a repeat Southeast Conference title and is 8-4 overall. You can hear both games between the Demons and the Panthers this evening on 106.1 FM KCII and streaming on KCIIradio.com and the KCII app. Coverage starts with the Countdown to Tip-Off at 5:30.
