Boys’ wrestling teams around the Southeast Iowa Super Conference competed last night, including Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union winning three duals in Lone Tree last night. The Wildcats defeated the Lions 82-0 in addition to beating Mediapolis 56-12 and winning 72-9 over Montezuma.

Junior Jacob Nelson was one winner of multiple bouts for Columbus/WMU at 113 pounds, claiming major decisions of 13-2 and 13-3. Sophomore Bowen Thomson won an 11-1 major decision and also pinned another opponent at 138 lbs, while sophomores Dakota Aney and Kason Dopler had pins at 106 and 175, respectively, as did senior Ty Scorpil at 132.

Senior Cole Storm won a 6-1 decision and picked up a pin for the Wildcats at 157, while sophomore Trevor Phillips needed overtime for an 8-6 sudden victory at 150. Columbus/Winfield-Mount also got pins to win from sophomore Jaxton Jones at 120; senior Ian Estudillo at 126; sophomore Alex Venzor at 138; senior Cael Phillips at 144; and junior Cooper Buffington at 215.

Despite the loss to the Wildcats, Lone Tree did defeat Montezuma 30-24, thanks to Clemens Swaink getting a pin at 138 lbs and fellow junior Brody Magruder doing the same at 175. Magruder also had a pin in a 72-9 loss to Mediapolis, while Lion freshman Brock Nebergall won a 9-5 decision against the Bulldogs at 113.

The Highland Huskies also came away with a trio of victories in wrestling duals last night at Pekin. Highland defeated the WACO Warriors 43-28 along with beating the host Panthers 41-18 and knocking off Wapello 47-24.

The Huskies got a big night from senior Remington Fields, who pinned all three opponents that he wrestled at 150 pounds. Sophomore Brock Thomann won three bouts at 126 lbs, one by pin, one by technical knockout and one by an 8-6 decision. Senior Luke Guseman also picked up a victory by technical fall for Highland at 120, while the Huskies also got pins to win by junior Wade Eckrich at 138; sophomore Alan Ness at 144; freshman Gauge Richardson at 150; and senior Jack Peiffer at 157.

Despite the loss to Highland, WACO was able to earn a 66-12 win over Pekin and a 48-18 victory over Wapello. Junior Gage Samo won a 14-3 major decision and picked up a 5-2 decision victory at 113 lbs for the Warriors.

Teammate John Mclaughlin had a pair of pins at 132, as did fellow senior John Stauffer at 285 and freshman Braxton Stauffer at 150. Highland and WACO will join Lone Tree and Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union at this year’s Southeast Iowa Super Conference Wrestling Championships Saturday in Burlington.
