Next week marks Catholic Schools Week nationwide, and St. James Elementary in Washington will have daily activities for students, staff and the community to celebrate.
Festivities begin on Sunday, January 28 with mass at 9 a.m. followed by brunch at 10 a.m. When school resumes on Monday, St. James alumni will visit and have a chance to speak with current students. Tuesday’s event is Prayers and Pancakes from 8:10-9:30 a.m. A children’s mass highlights Wednesday at 8:25 a.m. and includes a surprise delight. Thursday, St. James will hold a family night supper at 5:30 p.m. with activities to follow until 7 p.m. Finally, Friday’s activity is a wrap up event for a penny war fundraiser taking place all week.
Theme days accompany the activities throughout the week for students and staff. Sunday is St. James Pride clothes, Monday is Decade Day, Tuesday’s theme is Patterns, Wednesday is St. James Pride again, Thursday is Age Change, and Friday is Futuristic.
St. James Principal, Erik Buchholz spoke to KCII about the overall theme of the week, which is God is the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever. “It is just an opportunity to recognize students and staff that participate at St. James in a way that we get to talk about faith and the school system.”
St. James aims to use the week to celebrate its parish, alumni, community, students, families, and the world.
