Longtime Mason City Fire Department Captain and Columbus Community High School graduate, Dave Orr, retired earlier this month.

The Mason City Department bid farewell to both Orr and fellow-Captain Steve Bull, after more than 60 combined years of service. The two were commended for an ability to uphold their commitment to the Department through advancements in technology, the integration of an ambulance service, and countless trainings.

When the two began, the Mason City Fire Department received approximately 900 calls annually. During their tenure, that number has grown to 6,500 calls per year. Captains Orr and Bull were honored at a ceremony in the first week of January.
