A couple of Keokuk County boys’ basketball teams wrapped their weeks with wins. That includes the Keota Eagles continuing their undefeated season by knocking off Tri-County 89-33 Friday night. The fifth-ranked team in Class 1A raced out to a 32-8 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.

Senior Sawyer Stout had another big scoring night for Keota with a game-high 24 points, while junior Billie Kindred added 13 points and four assists. Senior Conner Strand had a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Chase Sieren also came off the pine to score 13 points as the Eagles move to 16-0.

Sigourney also polished off their week by defeating Tri-County 68-20 Saturday. The Savages stretched an early 22-7 lead to 26 points at halftime on their way to improving to 6-5 in the South Iowa Cedar League and 9-5 overall. Sophomore Solon Yates and junior Issac Bruns each scored 18 points to pace Sigourney, while Bruns also pulled down seven rebounds and Yates added four rebounds and three steals for the Savages.

Sigourney built on a 61-25 win they had earned the night before against English Valleys. The Savages already had a 24-13 halftime lead when they ripped off an impressive 30-4 run to seize complete control of the game. Bruns had a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and six steals, while freshman Ike Molyneux scored a game-high 17 points and added seven boards, five dimes and three thefts.

Sigourney also got a 48-39 victory over English Valleys in girls’ basketball Friday. Senior point guard Carly Goodwin had a huge game for the Savages with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Senior Erin Dawson added seven points and eight boards to help her team raise their record to 5-4 in conference play and 10-4 overall.

Both Sigourney teams will be back in action later tomorrow when they host SICL rival Iowa Valley, with the Savage girls first playing Wilton later tonight. Meanwhile, Keota will have both of its basketball squads back on the court tomorrow evening at Belle Plaine.
