The Hillcrest Academy boys and girls basketball teams are back home Tuesday when Wapello visits Dwight Gingerich Court for a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader. The Raven boys are 11-7 this year, 8-5 in conference after a 71-35 loss at No. 5 Keota Saturday where Seth Ours and Rowan Miller each scored eight. This year Hillcrest puts up 53 points per game and give up 46, shooting 44% from the floor, 36% from long range and 64% at the line with 24 rebounds, 16 assists, 10 steals and 13 turnovers per night. Individually, Ours scores 16 points per game, Mason Bender has five boards per night and Rowan Miller goes for five assists and two steals per game.
Wapello is 7-12 this season, 5-9 in the Superconference after a 75-64 win over Lone Tree last night, led by 47 points from Jackson Lanz. On the year, Wapello scores 49 per game and gives up 59, shooting 39% from the floor, 21% from three and 60% at the line with 32 rebounds, 12 assists, 10 steals and 19 turnovers per game. Lanz averages 24 points and 11 boards to lead with Justyn Faulkner at four assists and three steals per night. Hillcrest has won five straight in the series including a 49-32 victory earlier this year.
The Raven girls are 4-14 this year, 1-12 in the Superconference after a 48-41 loss at Keota Saturday where Claire Withrow scored 19 points. On the season, Hillcrest scores 37 points per game and gives up 44, shooting 28% from the floor, 29% from three and 50% at the line with 32 rebounds, nine assists, 11 steals and 20 turnovers per night. Individually, Withrow leads with 14 points, Delaney Shaw with nine rebounds and Malia Yoder with three steals and three assists per game.
Wapello is 6-14 on the year, 5-10 in the Superconference after a 56-39 setback against Lone Tree Monday. On the year, the Arrows score 37 per game and give up 47, shooting 29% from the field, 23% from three and 53% at the line with 30 rebounds, nine assists, 10 steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individually, Tatum Wolford averages 15 points and eight boards per night with Jacie Hoeg at four assists and two steals. Wapello beat Hillcrest 49-40 earlier this year and has won 15 straight in the series.
