The Highland School Board is expected to make a decision regarding a four-day school week at its next meeting.

During a work session on Monday, January 22, Superintendent Ken Crawford called on the Board to vote on whether or not the District will adopt a four-day school week for the 2024-25 school year. Staff retention was cited as one of several reasons to consider this transition, as several area schools do the same. Crawford is a shared Superintendent with the WACO Community School District, which has utilized a four-day week for the last decade.

Feedback has been received through several community meetings this month and a staff survey. According to the survey, more than 95% of participants were in favor of a four-day school week. A proposed calendar for 2024-25 would run Mondays through Thursdays and would still meet the state requirement of 1,080 instructional hours.

The meeting will be held on Monday, February 12 in the Highland Board Room. To view an FAQ document from the district with more information on a four-day school week, click here
