The Washington Demons suffered a pair of losses on their home basketball court Friday night against conference rival Fort Madison. The Washington girls fell behind 13-4 in the first quarter and could never fully recover, losing 48-28 to Fort Madison. Junior Kendall Hinrichsen scored a team-high 10 points, but the Demons still fall to 5-4 in the Southeast Conference and 8-10 overall.

The Washington boys were able to keep pace with a fierce Fort Madison offense, tying the game at 16 after a quarter of play and staying within three points by halftime. The Demons got clutch three-point buckets from junior Logan McDole to stay close in the final period, and sophomore Drew Conrad hit the tying three-pointer with three minutes to play.

But Fort Madison junior Leif Boeding responded with a go-ahead three moments later, and a steal by Boeding on the next possession led to a breakaway layup and a 52-47 lead for the Bloodhounds, who would go on to win 58-51.

McDole led Washington by scoring 11 points, while Conrad and senior Roman Roth had 10 points each, but it was not enough to keep the Demons from losing a fourth straight game. Washington drops to 4-5 in conference play and 6-10 in total. Both Demon teams are back in action this weekend against Clear Creek Amana.
