The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams will entertain the Tipton Tigers tonight at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Golden Hawk boys are red hot, going 4-0 last week with wins over No. 10 in Class 3A Williamsburg, No. 10 in Class 2A Iowa City Regina, Washington and these Tigers. Against the Regals it was a 60-53 victory Friday where they were led by 20 points from Bryce Henry. The Hawks have a 10-7 overll record and 6-4 mark in conference play. On the season, the Hawks score 63 points per game and give up 61, shooting 43% from the floor, 37% from three and 65% at the line with 30 rebounds, 15 assists, seven steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individually, five Hawks average double figures led by Bryce Henry’s 14 points. Brady Weber is best with six assists, five boards and two steals per game.
Tipton is 7-11 on the season and 3-7 in league play. The Tigers fell at Anamosa Friday 61-59. On the year, the Tigers score 55 per game and give up 61, shooting 41% from the field, 34% from three and 71% at the line with 27 boards, 13 assists, seven steals and 14 turnovers per game. Individually, Preston Daedlow puts up 14 points and four assists per night, Zach Binns has six assists and Brody Marchik three steals. These teams met a week ago with the Hawks winning 83-73 at Tipton.
The Mid-Prairie girls are 9-10 on the year, 5-5 in conference play. They have dropped three straight including a 57-39 loss against Regina Friday, led by Morgyn Bender’s 10 points. On the year, Mid-Prairie averages 51 and gives up 51, shooting 39% from the floor, 27% from three and 57% at the line with 35 rebounds, 12 assists, 12 steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individually, Callie Huber puts up 11 points and nine boards per night with Nora Pennington at three steals and three assists per game.
Tipton comes in with a 14-5 record, 6-2 in the River Valley after a 49-25 win at West Liberty Saturday. For the year, Tipton averages 46 points per night and gives up 41, shooting 36% from the floor, 30% from distance and 53% at the line with 31 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 steals and 20 turnovers per night. Individually, Carly Langenberg leads across the board with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals per game. The Tigers beat the Hawks Tuesday 51-42.
