The Washington Demons will try to close out the girls’ basketball regular season with a victory on the road against conference rival Burlington tonight in a game you can hear on KCII.

Washington will be looking to turn things around this evening, as their defeat at Clear Creek Amana on Saturday is their sixth loss in the last seven games, dropping them to 8-11 overall and a 5-4 record in the Southeast Conference.

The loss of sophomore point guard Adalyn Long to injury has been a tough one to replace for the Demons, as they’ve averaged only a little more than 30 points per game scored over the last seven contests.

Junior Kendall Hinrichsen has been leading the team in scoring since the start of January to try and propel the offense, and Washington continues to be a stout defensive team that gives up just under 48 points a game. Demons head coach Shannon Rugg tells KCII Sports that his team has tried to figure out a new way to win the last few games.

“Kendall playing point guard is doing an outstanding job for us,” Rugg says. “Lauren Hinrichsen did a great job handling the ball [and] I thought Jacey Berg did a great job of helping out. Taylor Bartholomew, she handled the ball and put it on the floor and attacked the basket some. Maci Williams brought it down a few times. Everybody just kind of said ‘We’re going to help out,’ and it’s making us a better basketball team.”

Washington won its first meeting with Burlington 60-50 back on January 5th, their ninth straight victory in the series. The Greyhounds have picked up back-to-back wins to improve to 5-4 in conference play and 9-9 overall.
