As part of his 99 County Tour, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig is in southeast Iowa today, specifically Mahaska, Keokuk, and Washington counties.
Secretary Naig’s day begins in Oskaloosa at Kelderman Manufacturing. There, he will tour the facility that is the original manufacturer of Down Corn Reel. In addition, Naig plans to meet with employees, learn about the operation and hear about plans for the future and any challenges they are facing. He will then do the same at Hog Slat in Sigourney. While his first stop deals more with the corn-side of agriculture, Naig’s Sigourney appearance will allow for discussion on the future of the pork industry.
This afternoon will see Secretary Naig arrive at the Washington County Extension Office. His Washington stop includes a roundtable meeting with area pork producers and corn growers. The discussion will center around current issues in ag, and will also be attended by newly elected President of the Iowa Pork Producers Association, Matt Gent.
Since being elected in 2018, Secretary Naig has made it a point to visit each of Iowa’s 99 counties every calendar year.
