For the last week and a half, the Washington Police Department has been working to raise funds for its longtime K9 Dex, who is in need of an important dental procedure. After hearing about this, a local fourth-grader decided to help.
Dawson Guy is a Washington resident and member of Cub Scout Pack 242. Over the last several days, he has raised more than $520 for Dex’s surgery by going door-to-door around the neighborhood and speaking to the congregation at his church. While meeting with Dawson, he shared with KCII how and why this endeavor began. “First we stumbled upon a post on Facebook about Dex and how he needed a tooth surgery. Later that day we were doing our lesson on duty to God and how it relates to my scout oath, so I thought it would be a great idea to help out the fundraiser. I thought I could help him out and by helping him out I’m also helping out the community.”
While he plans to continue his fundraising efforts, Dawson was able to drop off the money he’s collected so far at City Hall on Saturday, in addition to meeting the K9 he’s doing it all for.
