The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team starts the Class 2A tournament trail Monday when they host the Cardinal Comets. The Hawks are 11-9 on the season after finishing 6-6, fourth place in the River Valley Conference South Division. Mid-Prairie fell to West Branch 72-57 last week to wrap up the regular season. The Hawks average 63 points per game and give up 61, shooting 42% from the field, 36% from long range and 66% at the line with 30 rebounds, 14 assists, seven steals and 15 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Bryce Henry at 14 points per night, Dylan Henry with six rebounds per game and Brady Weber with five assists and two steals per outing.

Cardinal is 2-20 this season, finishing 1-13, last in the South Central Conference. They finished the regular season last week, dropping a matchup with Albia 78-24. On the year, Cardinal scores 44 points per game and gives up 77, shooting 38% from the field, 31% from deep and 53% at the line with 17 rebounds, six assists, three steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individually, Chase Hengstenberg has 11 points per night, Montana Rupe five boards and Nick Walker three assists and two steals.

The winner advances to the second round of the District Tournament Thursday to take on Eddyville-Blakesburg on the road.
