
A pair of local high school boys’ basketball teams had their seasons end with losses in the 1st round of the substate playoffs last night. The Sigourney Savages were beaten by Danville 62-52 in Class 1A Substate 5, while the Highland Huskies fell at North Linn 117-36 in Substate 3.
Sigourney only trailed 18-14 in the first quarter at Danville but was still down by five points at halftime and at the end of the third period. The Bears kept the Savages at bay down the stretch as the season comes to an end for Sigourney with a record of 13-9.
Highland fell behind 41-6 in the first quarter and could never catch up to North Linn, ending their season with a 3-19 mark. The Huskies will be losing one senior in Nic Oriano.
