The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team looks to take the next step in the postseason tournament tonight when they travel to Chariton. The Golden Hawk girls are 11-10 this year, after finishing 7-5, third place in the South Division of the River Valley Conference. The Hawks opened the playoffs Saturday with a 57-29 win over Albia, led by 13 points each from Nora Pennington and Brooklyn Schneider. This season, the Hawks score 51 points per game and give up 49, shooting 39% from the floor, 27% from three and 57% at the line with 36 rebounds, 12 assists, 12 steals and 22 turnovers per night. Individually, Callie Huber scores 11 points per game to go with nine boards. Pennington has four steals and three assists.

Chariton is 19-3 this year, they were 12-2, second place in the South Central Conference. The Chargers are ranked No. 13 in the final Class 3A poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their first round game Saturday, they were a 66-30 winner over Centerville behind a 19 point, 10 rebound double double from Tatyana Allen-Winston, Addie McGee had 17 points and McKenzie Snook 14. On the season, Chariton has 56 points per game, giving up 37, shooting 38% from the field, 25% from downtown and 61% at the line with 34 boards, 14 assists, 19 steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individually, Snook averages 17 points, six steals and five assists per night, Allen-Winston puts up 10 boards. This is the first girls basketball meeting all-time between the two schools. Winner of tonight’s game will play Saturday for a bid to the State Tournament.
