Damian Vergara is a senior at Columbus Community High School and a state officer for the Iowa Business Professionals of America. Last Week, Vergara joined the other officers at the State Capitol to advocate for career and tech education.

In what was an action-packed day, Vergara was able to meet and speak with Director of Education McKenzie Snow, State Representative Lee Graber, and State Senator Nate Bolton. Vergara and the other officers were also able to tour the library, sit where the speaker of the house sits, witness two bills being voted on in a sub-committee meeting, and climb the 1,000 steps to the dome of the Capitol.

Vergara serves as a Parliamentarian on this year’s state officer team, and has been a part of BPA at Columbus for the last three years. He has attended nationals twice for Parliamentary Procedure and Human Resources.
