With spring only a few weeks away, habitat restoration work continues at Pleasant Lake in Fairfield, according to District Forester, Cassidy Widner.

Pleasant Lake is surrounded by 114 acres of both woodlands and prairie. Habitat management is being done, in part, to enhance the woodlands for a wide range of wildlife species, Additionally, the restoration work helps thin out stands of trees which not only weeds out undesirable species, but improves other trees’ vitality. Finally, burning and mowing may be implemented to eliminate trees encroaching on prairie areas.
