The Washington School Board met on Wednesday, on the agenda was the Superintendent’s report. Superintendent Willie Stone gave an update on chronic absenteeism for the district, “Looking at chronic absenteeism, we are at the same as what we were last time. It really can change between days, last Thursday I looked and we were at 16% so it moves up and down. We are at the place right now with our attendance task force, we are trying to get a plan for how we will implement everything in next year. And then our buildings also have attendance teams and they are starting to get work done also. So, we’re moving in the right direction.” Chronic absenteeism, a primary cause of poor academic achievement, is defined as missing at least 10 percent of days in a school year for any reason, including excused and unexcused absences.
