The Louisa County Board of Supervisors are in the process of acquiring signs to commemorate the County’s status as a Purple Heart Community.

After approving a proclamation last November, the goal is to now put signs along the highways that run through the County. According to the Military Order of the Purple Heart website, Pottawattamie County is the only other in the State of Iowa that is recognized as a Purple Heart entity. Nationwide, there are sections in 45 states part of the Purple Heart Trail, which is a “symbolic and honorary system of roads, highways, bridges, and other monuments that give tribute to the men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart medal.”
