The WACO Warriors had their boys’ basketball season come to an end with a 54-40 loss to Burlington Notre Dame in the Class 1A Substate 5 quarterfinals Thursday night. Despite an early deficit, WACO used an 11-2 run in the second quarter to take a 20-14 lead into halftime. But the Warriors were on the wrong end of a 22-7 run in the third period and could never catch up to Burlington Notre Dame.

Hunter Hughes led WACO with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds while also coming up with six assists and two blocked shots. Fellow senior Chase Waterhouse had nine points and seven rebounds, while senior Colton Leichty finished with eight points, six boards, two assists, two steals and three blocks.

Still, it was not enough to keep the Warriors from having their season conclude with a record of 18-6. In addition to Hughes, Waterhouse and Leichty, WACO will be saying goodbye to seniors Reece Oswald and Noah Fried.
