The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team saw their season come to a close Thursday at Eddyville-Blakesburg, falling to the home Rockets in the semifinal round of the Class 2A District Tournament 73-61. Each team went on a huge run early, with EBF opening the game on a 19-3 sprint and Mid-prairie answering back with 17 of the next 21 points. The Hawks were down 20-18 after one and 38-35 at half. The Rockets used a 9-0 run late in the third to get some breathing room before Mid-Prairie again closed back within 57-52 going to the fourth. EBF closed on a 16-9 run over the final eight minutes to secure the win.
The Rockets shot a sizzling 50% from the floor as a team. They outrebounded Mid-Prairie 35-20, had 21 team assists and forced 14 Golden Hawk turnovers. Brooks Moore had 27 points to lead the Rockets and Karic Stout put up a double double for EBF with 13 points and 11 boards. Ace Peck led the Mid-Prairie attack with 23 points, Bryce Henry added 21. The pair combined for 11 made threes. With the loss, Mid-Prairie ends their season at 12-10. The Rockets are 17-5. They play for the District 9 Championship against Pella Christian at Oskaloosa Tuesday. Mid-Prairie says goodbye to six seniors including Landon Sullivan, Dylan Henry, Brock Harland, Beau Flynn, Kurt Schneider and Carson Pence.
