The Washington Demons will put it all on the line tonight when they start the high school boys’ basketball playoffs by taking on Clear Creek Amana in a Class 3A Substate 5 quarterfinal that you can hear on KCII.
Washington is hoping that win-or-go-home time will lead to the end of a losing streak, as the Demons have dropped eight straight games coming into this evening to fall to 6-14. Junior wing Logan McDole leads the team in scoring by averaging over 12 points per game and has been a terrific shooter, hitting 47 percent of his attempts.
Sophomore Drew Conrad has also been able to score the basketball, averaging 11-and-a-half points per contest, while senior Roman Roth and freshman Nic Stone have also contributed to the offense by each putting up nearly eight points a game.
But, while it hasn’t translated into wins, Washington head coach Collin Stark tells KCII Sports he believes he has an offensive lineup that gives his team a chance on any given night.
“I think that we should have confidence that we can against [Clear Creek Amana],” Stark says. “We just need to make sure we’re able to stop their attack, and if we guard them like we did against Solon, with how well we communicated and were able to switch, I like our chances.”
The Demons will be dueling with a Clear Creek Amana team that is 15-6 this season. The Clippers score an average of 67 points per game and can certainly pile up the points, including when they beat Washington 87-70 back on February 3rd.
