Wells Clark rolls into Waterloo today with his sights set on hardware at the Class 1A Iowa High School Athletic Association individual bowling state championships. Clark, a sophomore for Sigourney-Keota, qualified for state last week with a third place finish at the Camanche State Qualifier, rolling a 658.
Clark’s high game of the season, 269, ranks 10th in Class 1A. His high series of 480 is 17th best in Iowa and his pin total of 4717 is 18th most. Clark’s average score per game is 189.
The Savage sophomore joins the field of 32 to bowl three individual games in the preliminary round Wednesday. The top eight finishes from that group will be bracketed in a traditional format, with the top seed facing the eight seed, second seed versus the seventh seed and so on, playing quarterfinal, semifinal, and finals matches to decide the individual champion. The Class 1A Individual State Bowling Championships start at 9a.m. Wednesday and continue all day at Cadillac XBC in Waterloo.
