The FFA Chapter in the WACO Community School District was formed just three years ago, but that was plenty of time for three of its members to reach an important milestone. Earlier this month, seniors Zoey Dennler, Wyatt Dennis, and Brendan Hudson each earned their Iowa Degree, the first three to do so in the early history of the WACO Chapter.
The Iowa Degree is the highest one an FFA member can receive at the state level. Dennler spoke with KCII about the process. “The third year you’re eligible for your Iowa [Degree], but not everybody gets it. It took a lot of work. We did many SAEs which are supervised ag experiences. I raised bucket bottle calves and I also worked with my horse. We tracked hours, money we spent, money we received from selling them to all work up to a certain amount of hours and money to be able to be eligible for these degrees.” Hudson and Dennis completed their supervised ag experiences in turf and grass management, while Dennis also worked in ag mechanics.
Much like many chapters in the KCII listening area, WACO is busy this week celebrating National FFA Week. Dennler, Dennis, and Hudson will each officially receive their Iowa Degree at the State Convention in April.
