Some of the best girls’ basketball players in the state reside in our own backyards, as evidenced by the four local players who have earned all-district selections in Classes 1A and 2A from the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
One of the three who makes the All-Southeast team in Class 1A is Lone Tree’s Finley Jacque. The sophomore averaged nearly 15-and-a-half points, four rebounds, three assists and three-and-a-half steals per game in guiding the Lions to a 19-4 record and their first-ever North division championship in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.
Another local star to receive an all-district honor is Highland senior Sarah Burton. The Super Conference North Player of the Year put up nearly 16 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, four steals and 2.5 blocked shots per contest in guiding the Huskies to a 14-7 record, their first winning mark in five years.
Meawhile, Columbus’ Lily Coil adds to the list of Super Conference studs who were named All-Southeast District. The junior makes all-district in Class 2A after posting nearly 15 points, 10.5 boards, three dimes and 5.5 thefts a game for the 15-7 Wildcats, leading them to their first winning season since 2017.
Carly Goodwin was a leader for Sigourney’s outstanding season in the South Iowa Cedar League and also receives an all-district selection in Class 1A. The senior point guard led the Savages to a 19-5 record and a division championship thanks to her nearly 12.5 points, four rebounds, 3.5 assists and two steals per game.
