Former Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls wrestling standout Bronwyn Brenneman begins her chase for a National Championship today at the Women’s NJCAA Championship meet in Council Bluffs. Brenneman, a sophomore at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge, comes into action with a 22-6 record. She has been ranked No. 2 in the country all season at 130lbs by the NJCAA, capturing a pair of tournament titles, winning the Luther College Open and Grand View Open this season. She was named Women’s Wrestling Athlete of the Week once this season. Brenneman was 24-10 as a freshman. Brenneman is part of a Triton team that is ranked No. 3 in the country and sports a 4-4 overall dual record.
Brenneman has put together an impressive hitlist this year, including a tech fall victory over No. 3 in the country Amaria Ridgner of Indian Hills, a pin against No. 4 Sarah Trunnell of Snow College, a fall against No. 6 Kiley Langley of Ellsworth College and a pin against Cali Leng of the NCAA National Dual Champion Iowa Hawkeyes. Brenneman opens her tournament today with a bout in the round of 32 against No. 8 Julia Raabe of Umpqua College in Oregon, who has an 8-9 record.
Brenneman was a two-time state place winner for the Golden Hawks.
Action continues all weekend at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.
