One of the best girls’ basketball players in the area has been recognized by coaches from across the state as both a great athlete and a great student. Highland Husky senior Sarah Burton has been named a member of the 2024 Northwest Bank Girls’ Basketball Academic All-State team by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
Out of over 100 applicants, Burton was one of only 21 players selected by an IBCA panel to earn academic all-state honors. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete needed to fall inside the averages of a 4.0 grade-point average and a ACT composite score of 26 while also averaging double-figure scoring in games.
On the court, Burton was a star for Highland, averaging almost 16 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two-and-a-half blocked shots per game. The senior was named the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Player of the Year and helped the Huskies finish the season with a record of 14-7.
