U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII News about one of his goals for this year with the Farm Bill. “And I’m sorry to say to you that if we don’t get movement out of the Senate Agriculture Committee on a Farm Bill within the next thirty days, we’re not going to get a five-year Farm Bill. And a five year Farm Bill is very necessary for farmers to have the long view. And so if we don’t get a bill this year, we are going to have to extend the 2018 Farm Bill another year, making it a seven-year Farm Bill. That’s not the way to have good agriculture policy.” One of the major holds on the Farm Bill is a provision on food stamps. The Farm Bill is 85% Food Stamps and Nutrition and 15% farm-based. The 2018 Farm Bill does not reflect the current rates of production for farms.
