KCII News spoke with Senator Chuck Grassley about Proposition 12 and what legislation he is pushing to help protect Iowa hog farmers. “It goes by the acronym EATS, but basically it would be our passing legislation that would overrule proposition 12. So Iowa being the number one pork producing state in the nation, and down there in your part of the country,  Washington county is probably one of the leading hog producing counties in the state of Iowa. But we can’t have California people that know nothing about agriculture affecting how we are farming, and if we pass this EATS legislation, it will overrule proposition 12 so Iowa farmers will be able to sell their pork in California.” The EATS Act protects agricultural producers by prohibiting state and local regulations that could create trade barriers for U.S. ag products.
