It was a productive Saturday at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines for the Washington Community Schools archery teams, as 10 shooters had top-1o finishes at this year’s Iowa State Tournament.
In the bullseye competition, the best score for Washington High School belonged to Emma Helfrich. The freshman scored a 290 and fired 20 perfect 10s on her way to finishing second among all high school and freshman girls and third overall among girls at all levels.
Ethan Mesch also finished third in the bullseye among seniors for the Demons, while seventh-grader Zach Hotchkiss had the fifth-best score among middle school boys and was third in his class. Fourth-graders Logan Hotchkiss and Jayse Thorius were third and eighth, respectively, in their class for Lincoln Elementary.
Washington High’s Hannah Lipski had the best score in the 3D competition by posting a 279 with 17 tens, finishing seventh among freshman girls. Not far behind was Washington Middle schooler Jordan Thorius, who had the best score among sixth-grade boys at 277.
Avery Marner took ninth in the girls’ junior class for the Demon high schoolers, while Zach Hotchkiss and Hunter Barnes both finished in the top eight for seventh-grade boys. Addyson Neer led Lincoln by finishing sixth among fifth-grade and all elementary-school girls, while Logan Hotchkiss was sixth for fourth-grade boys.
