It was another special season of boys’ basketball for the Keota Eagles, who reached the number-six ranking in the state in Class 1A by the end of the regular season. Now, the five starters who powered Keota to a near-perfect campaign have earned all-conference accolades in the South Iowa Cedar League.
Among that group is Sawyer Stout, who is a unanimous first-team choice. One of the school’s all-time leading scorers poured in nearly 21 points per game and shot just under 51 percent in his final season with the Eagles, leading the East division of the SICL in both scoring and made baskets.
Point guard Cole Kindred also earns a first-team nod after a brilliant all-around season where he averaged almost 10-and-a-half points, four-and-a-half rebounds, six assists and two-and-a-half steals per contest.
Both members of Keota’s starting frontcourt receive second-team selections. That includes junior Billie Kindred, who averaged a double-double of nearly 12 points and 11 rebounds a game, and senior Evan Vittetoe, who posted better than 10 points, six boards and one blocked shot per game.
Honorable mention goes to senior guard Tanner Waterhouse, who shot over 4o% on three-point attempts this season. Keota was 23-0 prior to their loss in the District 11 finals, marking the fourth time in the last five season where they won at least 20 games.
