A trip to the State Championship Game is on the line for Winfield-Mt. Union basketball tonight, as the boys once again hit the floor at Wells Fargo Arena. Tonight’s semifinal matchup pins the Wolves against number-one-ranked North Linn and all of the action can be heard on KCII.

The Wolves, ranked fifth in the state, made it to the final four by winning five consecutive playoff games, most recently a 54-37 victory against Lynnville-Sully Monday afternoon. A 17-0 run to start the fourth quarter propelled WMU to it’s 21st win of the season and first at the State Tournament since 1996. North Linn has been in the last six State Championship games, winning it all in 2019 and 2022.

WMU will be sending a pep bus, plus a free pep bus for students thanks to donations from Katie Hamilton, Eric Cox, and Kim Fenton. The Winfield-Mt. Union Community School District is dismissing class at 1 p.m. today, and the buses will depart from the school at approximately 2 p.m.

Due to KCII’s broadcast of the contest, Wednesday’s Evening Magazine will run from 4-5 p.m. before the pregame show. Pregame coverage will air on all signals and streams beginning at 5 p.m. and then it’s opening tip between Wolves and Lynx in the Class 1A State Semifinals at 5:30 on KCII.
