For the last several weeks, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has been collecting donations and raising funds for what they are calling a “School Safety Project”.

Led by Henry County Deputy Sheriff/New London School Resource Officer Carlos Lopez, the initial goal of the project was to provide school safety kits for the New London District. Soon growing to include all classrooms in Henry County, a financial need arose. Grants have already been received from a number of organizations, with additional applications being written. As of the middle of February, roughly $30,000 had been raised towards these kits.

Each kit will contain lifesaving medical supplies, and training on how to use them will be done in the schools. To donate, a check can be dropped at the Henry County Sheriff’s Office or Two Rivers Bank, made out to the Mt. Pleasant Community School Foundation. On the memo line, indicate that the donation is for the “School Safety Project”. For more information, contact the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 319-385-2712.
