The 2024 Iowa YMCA State Swim Meet was a productive one for the Washington Water Sharks, who had a seventh-place finish in scoring as a team in addition to a number of top individual and relay-team performers while representing the YMCA of Washington County this past weekend in Marshalltown.
The best finish for the Water Shark boys came from Zach Baker, who was third in the 25-yard freestyle swim for boys age 8 and under with a time of 16.24 seconds. Baker was also third in the 50-yd free of his age division, while Kaden Huber took fourth in the 50-yd breaststroke and sixth in the 100-yd breaststroke for ages 11 and 12.
Logan Westphal took seventh in the breaststroke 100 for ages 13 and up, followed in eighth by teammate Ty Huber. Westphal also finished 10th in the 50-yd breaststroke, as did Huber in the breaststroke 200.
Teague Meyer would be Washington’s other individual boy in the top 10 after placing seventh in the 50-yd butterfly of the 13-plus division. Aubrey Pickens had the best finish for the girls by placing eighth in the 100-yd breaststroke for ages 9 and 10
Two Water Shark relay teams also had top finishes. Meyer, Westphal, Ty Huber and Clyde Johnson were seventh in the 200-yd medley for ages 15 and up, and the same quartet finished 10th in the 200-yd freestyle relay.
