A number of the top track and field athletes from the Southeast Iowa Super Conference made a strong debut to their season by participating at this year’s Dickinson Relays Monday and Tuesday on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
The best individual finish from a local athlete was Columbus’ Kaden Amigon, who was 16th in the boys’ 200-meter dash with a time of 23.7 seconds. Fellow senior Russell Coil was 18th in the shot put with a toss of just over 44 feet 11 inches.
Freshman Lamar Ceant made a splash in his Wildcat debut finishing 29th in the long jump. The Columbus girls also just snuck inside the top 30 in the 4-by-800-meter relay thanks to the team of Isabel Rendon, Ariana Vergara and Naveiah and Iris Garza.
Lone Tree was led by junior Rylee Shield, who rounded out the top 30 in the girls’ long jump. She joined teammates Vivian Zaruba, Ava Christofferson and Cate Sexton to help the Lions take 26th in the 4-by-400 relay.
The best finish for Winfield-Mount Union came from their 4-by-200 relay team of Josie Nelson, Tessa Huston, Suttyn Schlee and Aurey Meeker after placing 47th.
