The Washington City Council heard a presentation about Substance Abuse Advocacy from Maya Yoder, a Prevention Specialist with Community and Family Resources. Yoder shares some of her presentation, “Iowa just moved from fourth to third in the nation for highest rates of binge drinking. In the 2022 Iowa Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, that was the data we found, and in Washington County, we’re a little bit lower than the state average, which is great, but higher than the National average, and higher than we would like to be.” The definition of binge drinking is defined as for a typical adult, consuming 5 or more drinks (male), or 4 or more drinks (female), in about 2 hours.
