With assistance from the Horse & Pony 4-H Club parents, leaders, and the Southeast Iowa Draft Horse & Mule Association the annual 4-H Horse Driving Clinic will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds. This event will be held in conjunction with the 4-H Pancakes and More Breakfast on the fairgrounds on April 20. Youth may register to attend the clinic from 10 a.m. – noon. Youth will be paired with their own hitched draft horse team and an experienced teamster to help train youth. The clinic will include harnessing demonstrations, hitching demonstrations, driving clinic, and end with a driving class competition. This unique opportunity is open to any Washington County 4-H youth enrolled for the 2023-2024 4-H year. Youth do not have to be a Horse & Pony member or have a horse to participate and learn. Pre-registration is required, and there is no fee to participate. Youth must wear jeans, boots/close-toed shoes, and riding helmets. Helmets are available to borrow if needed. The rain date is set for April 27. For more information about the 4-H Horse Driving Clinic or how to get involved with the 4-H as a member or volunteer, contact the Washington County Extension Office.
