A former Washington Demons athlete continues to excel in track and field in college. Lance Sobaski helped Wartburg College finish second in the distance medley relay at the NCAA Division III indoor track national championships over the weekend in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Sobaski, a 2022 Washington graduate, joined teammates Jensen Clapp, Carter Cruise and Christopher Collet in posting a time of nine minutes 49 seconds, just two seconds behind the winning time from Lynchburg College.

This is after Sobaski’s relay team also took second at their NCAA qualifier and at their conference meet. Sobaski was also third in the American Rivers Conference in the 3,000-meter run in his sophomore season.

It’s the first trip to indoor nationals for Sobaski, who made the NCAA D3 national championships n the 3,000-meter steeplechase and was named D3 national freshman of the year in outdoor track at Wartburg.

As part of a stellar career, Sobaski helped Washington finish top five in the state as a team in Class 3A during his senior season in 2022. He was also a top-ten finisher at state cross country in 2021 in his final season with the Demons.
