A WACO football star will be continuing his career at the collegiate level. Warriors senior Colton Leichty recently signed his letter of intent to play at Grand View University in Des Moines.
Leichty exits his brilliant career on the gridiron at WACO with school records for career and single-season sacks, as well as the most tackles for loss by a single Warrior in one season and in a career.
In his senior season, Leichty piled up 18-and-a-half tackles for loss and seven sacks on his way to a second consecutive all-state selection in 8-player football. His 27 tackles for loss and 17 sacks in 2022 led the state as he helped WACO reach the 8-player state championship game.
Leichty also competed in basketball and soccer for the Warriors. He’ll be joining a Grand View Vikings team that started last season 11-0 and reached the number-two ranking in the country before falling in the NAIA Football Championship Subdivision quarterfinals.
