Mid-Prairie Speech made history Saturday at the Iowa High School Speech Association’s State Individual Events Speech Contest.

Held at Xavier High School in Cedar Rapids, the Golden Hawks received a division 1 rating in 23 of the 24 events competed in, plus 11 All-State nominations. This shatters the previous Mid-Prairie record for nominations in one year at six. Individually, Haydon Bailey broke the record for most career nominations with his ninth and tenth. Bailey was nominated to perform in Solo Acting and recognized for Solo Musical Theatre.

Additional events that will be performing at the All-State Festival include Caroline Schrader in Solo Acting, Daniel Rodgers and Niah Leaton in After Dinner Speaking, Grace Puttman and Harlie Gehling in Poetry, Jack Greiner in Improvisational Acting, Logan McClellen in Solo Musical Theatre, and Wren Harris in Prose. Additional All-State recognition went to Leaton in Reviewing and other State performers for the Golden Hawks included Jacob Carrillo, Jillian Clark, Tabitha Fisher, River Gehling, Isadora Goode, Diego Sanchez, Faziia Kasymova, Rebecca Westfall, and Samantha Wunderlich.

The Individual Events All-State Speech Festival will be held on Monday, March 25 at the University of Northern Iowa.
