Both the Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles are ready to cross the start line of a new track and field season, with a group of young and exciting athletes leading the way.
That includes the two state qualifiers for Sigourney last season. Reagan Clarahan returns for the Savage girls after reaching the Class 1A championships in the 400-meter hurdles, while fellow junior McKinley Chittick is also back after a trip to state in the high jump.
While South Iowa Cedar League medalists like junior shot-putter Josephine Moore and sophomore distance-runner Addison Yates return for the Sigourney girls, as do members of the 4-by-400-meter and distance medley relay teams that won conference medals, the Savage boys will be led by sophomore Troy Klett, who is coming off a third-place finish at the conference meet in the 3,200-meter run.
For Keota, sophomores are expected to be stars, like sprinter Olivia Lyle and long-jumper Gavin Sieren. The Eagles had a girls’ sprint medley that won a SICL medal. Both Keota and Sigourney will be next competing at the conference’s annual indoor meet Monday at Grinnell College.
