For the third year in a row, Adaptive Sports Iowa and the Iowa Grizzlies will be holding a wheelchair basketball fundraiser.
The event, which is a 3-on-3 style tournament, will be held at the Wellman Parkside YMCA on Saturday, March 23. The public is invited to build a team and participate in the 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. session. Cost is $25 per person, wheelchairs will be provided, and three games are guaranteed for each team. Raffles, a silent auction, and concessions will be available throughout the day.
The winning team from each session will also have the chance to square off with the Iowa Grizzlies. The Grizzlies is a youth wheelchair basketball team sponsored by Adaptive Sports Iowa and is the only one of its kind in the State. Local team members include Washington sophomore Josh Anderson and Mid-Prairie junior Jayden Stafford. Stafford explained the mission of Adaptive Sports Iowa to KCII. “We’re an organization where we give chances to kids with disabilities to play a sport they want to do: basketball, track, skiing, anything.”
