The lights will be on late into the night Thursday for the first time this spring at Case Field in Washington, when the Demons host their annual Steve Roth Relays. Six KCII area schools will be among those making their away around the oval.
The Demons open the outdoor season tonight. They had a pair of events make up the indoor portion of their schedule. Washington finished 17th in Class 3A at the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Indoor Championships at Iowa State. Highlights for Washington included a state runner-up performance for Micah Rees, Logan McDole, Tyler Alderton and Lane Schrock in the 4×800, sixth for Rees in the mile and 11th for McDole in the 400. At the Dickinson Relays in Cedar Falls, the Demon boys were 16th in the team standings, led by Alec Ulin sixth in the 200, McDole sixth in the 400, Greyson Hartman seventh in shot put, and Alderton 10th in the mile.
A trio of local schools that will be in Washington tonight, Columbus, Highland and Winfield-Mt. Union opened their outdoor seasons Monday at the Wildcat Co-Ed in Columbus Junction. This is the first outdoor event of the season for the WACO boys, who have previously competed indoors at Central College last week. This is the first meet of any kind this season for the Keota Eagles.
Those local teams will be joined tonight by Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Burlington, Carlisle, Danville, Fairfield, Fort Madison, City High, Iowa City West, Mediapolis, Monticello, Mount Pleasant, Ottumwa, Wapello and West Burlington. Action starts at 3:30 this afternoon and continues into the evening at Case Field in Washington.
