The Southeast Iowa Senior All-Star basketball game was held earlier this month at Burlington Notre Dame High School. With the area’s best players, and a gym full of fans, one local star shined brighter, and flew higher than the others. Winfield-Mt. Union Senior Cole Milks was named the winner of the Senior All-Star Slam Dunk Contest. Milks put together a round that saw him defy gravity with one and two handed jams, a reverse and even a 360 slam, earning him a perfect score of 40, to edge out his Wolves teammate Cam Buffington for the title.
Local boys athletes competing in activities on the night along with Milks and Buffington included their WMU teammates Abram Edwards, Carter Lloyd and Gabriel Hemsworth, WACO’s Chase Waterhouse, Hunter Hughes and Colton Leichty and Columbus’ Tim Hills-Carrier. Selected for girls competition were WACO’s Emma Wagler and Halle Shelman and Winfield-Mt. Union’s Lily Freeman and Maggie Hutton.
