Former Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk ace Brad Tornow was dominant on the diamond for Northwestern College March 9th in a 4-0 win over Valley City State of North Dakota. Tornow, a senior hurler for the Red Raiders, got the start and stifled State. He went the distance, striking out 16 in seven frames, tying a Raider program record, surrendering just two hits, one walk, and facing only 25 men. Tornow’s teammates spotted him an early lead with four first inning runs, and he made it stand up the rest of the night. Tornow is now 2-1 this season with a 3.42 ERA in 24 innings of work, giving up 19 hits, nine earned runs and punching out 35. Tornow spoke recently on the KCII PM Sports Page about his goals during his final season in Orange City. Tornow said, “As a pitching staff, we have broken the school strikeout record the last two years, we want to go back and beat that record again this year. Personally, I am a starter this year, so I would like to just keep my team in games and be competitive when I pitch.”
After his outing, Tornow was named Great Plains Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week. Northwestern has a 9-8 record this season.
