Today marks the beginning of Severe Weather Awareness Week. In the spirit of increasing awareness of the hazards of severe weather, the City of Columbus Junction continues to work with the Iowa Flood Resilient Communities Cohort.

Columbus Junction was named to the cohort in December along with Dubuque, Manchester, and Muscatine, each of the four with a history of being impacted by flooding. For 12 months, the American Flood Coalition and Iowa Flood Center work with these communities to develop flood projects and navigate opportunities for federal funding.

At a meeting last month, the Columbus City Council met with IFC Program Manager Kate Giannini, and AFC Senior Strategy Director Summer Modelfino, Associate Strategy Director Yasmine Dyson, and Senior Flood Planning Associate Ruth Akintoye. The four spoke about some services and strategies available to the City as part of the cohort.
